The Yogi and the River of Gold

Lesson: A true yogi desires nothing

A wandering yogi sat meditating near a river when a wealthy merchant approached him.

“O sage, I have heard you possess great powers. Can you turn this river into gold for me?”

The yogi smiled and touched the water. The river instantly turned into liquid gold.

The merchant was ecstatic, but the yogi simply walked away.

The merchant ran after him and asked,
“Why did you give me such a treasure and leave?”

The yogi replied,
“To me, gold and water are the same. I seek nothing but inner peace.”

The merchant, realizing his own greed, renounced his wealth and became the yogi’s disciple.

Moral: True wealth is the freedom from desire.
